Turning Waste Into Worth: Our New Waste Material Rescue Service
Old skate ramps and sheet material made with egg & nut shells
Lino flooring offcuts, old kitchen worktops and joinery offcuts
In Cornwall, tonnes of usable materials are thrown away every year — destined for landfill, incineration, or costly disposal — simply because they are surplus, offcuts, or the “wrong size” for their original project.
At Stratum Marquetry, we see these materials differently. Every sheet of plywood, every offcut of acrylic, every strip of lino has the potential to become part of something beautiful, useful, and built to last.
That’s why we’ve launched our Waste Material Rescue Service — a new initiative to partner with local businesses and give their surplus sheet materials a second life. Instead of paying to dispose of them, our partners now get paid for their offcuts.
From plywood and MDF to veneer, acrylic, plastics, and even soft metals in sheet form, we collect a wide range of materials directly from our partners — clean, usable, and ready for transformation in our workshop. Our team turns these rescued materials into our Modern Marquetry products, furniture, and flooring, as well as supplies for our community workshops.
It’s a win-win:
For businesses: Reduced disposal costs, an extra income stream, and positive sustainability credentials.
For the planet: Less waste in landfill and fewer resources extracted from the earth.
For our community: Materials that inspire creativity, skill-sharing, and opportunities for people who need them most.
If you’re a Cornwall-based business generating useful sheet materials, we’d love to talk. Whether you’re a joinery shop, a kitchen manufacturer, a flooring contractor, or a signmaker, you could become a Stratum Marquetry Waste Partner.
Let’s turn waste into worth — together.
