Inside the Workshop: Tools, Techniques, and Training

A bright workshop scene with woodworking machinery, reclaimed timber, and a marquetry piece in progress.

Behind every piece of Modern Marquetry is a blend of traditional craft and modern machinery. In our workshop, we rely on essential machines like our table saw, large Felder band saw, and planer thicknesser, alongside handheld routers and CNC machines. These tools allow us to craft precision surfaces from unconventional materials.

But our workshop isn’t only for production. Through our one- and two-day Modern Marquetry courses, we open our doors to the community. Participants learn the basics of our techniques and create their own piece of artwork to take home. Courses also emphasise sustainability and circularity, demonstrating how offcuts and waste materials can be repurposed into objects of beauty. Every attendee leaves not only with a crafted piece but also with knowledge of how design can support environmental responsibility.
